RELIEF ACTIVITY FOR THURS 12 MARCH

BLOG POST PROMPT. Once you have finished the work above you need to go to your blog document and spend 20 mins reflecting/discussing what we have found out so far about negative representations in the news media. Use the following to guide you:

  1. Are you surprised by the way teenagers are represented in the media? Explain your answer.

I'm very surprised when the statistics are gathered and people think that teenagers are negative people. People need to understand and they will understand that teenagers have their own way of acting and people need to accept it. Telling teenagers about their life negatively will not help them at all and in cases, could lead them to act worse than before.

Overall, people need to understand that they have been teenagers before and have acted ways older people will not be impressed with what they do. This is the same with today's teenagers, people need to accept who they are and not judge them too much.

Media loves to portray teenagers in a negative way considering that older people have done much worse things but never advertise them. This is how the media capitalizes on their occupation.

  1. List 3-4 headlines that your group found yesterday and for each one explain how it portrays teenagers in a negative way. (Copy and Paste these into your blog)

TEENAGERS: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM?:

Finding problems with teenagers rather than the advantages.

TEENAGERS IRRITABLE BECAUSE EARLY SCHOOL HOURS

Identifying teenagers as lazy or unproductive.

THREE TEENS ACCUSED OF ATTACKING MEN WHO TRIED TO STOP THEM FROM HURTING DOG:

Advertising something positive as negative.

  1. Write a short paragraph of 4-5 sentences discussing what you think the dangers or impact could be of teenagers being portrayed like this could be. (This is purely your opinion-no right or wrong answer here)

What I find funny about the media is not how they advertise things but how they love to dedicate their time into articles that interested people and make them believe in the articles they read. Considering the age group of people who read online, this makes them vulnerable to false information and bad beliefs. This is why people do not like teenagers because of the articles they read.

This type of negativity leaded to teenagers can leave them to be insecure about themselves because of the amount of articles directed to them negatively. Coming from a teenager, other teenagers could despise others because of the readings they have read themselves or their appearance that they represent themselves in. This is why people need to learn to accept teenagers as a normal human being, not a bad figure.

Just because another person of the same age group does not publicly identify / portray all the teenagers.

Planning Checklist For | LEVEL 2 MEDIA STUDIES

1. Outline:

My group will be creating a parody / mockumentary trailer about the popular american sitcom known as "The Office". This parody will consist of a scripted scene of a some-what normal period in a classroom. Due to the factors that The Office does not have a official trailer, we will have to base our ideas from existing episodes of the sitcom and use that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. 5 Conventions:

SETTING:

The setting of our mockumentary will be set in a classroom, replicating a scene where students are doing work & others not on task. This will create a serene and the typical standard you would see in a classroom while also including aspects from The Office for example: actors acknowledging the camera by staring at it from time to time, interviews with the camera in front of them, etc. We will emphasize the setting through editing and altering camera shots.

MUSIC:

The Office has a unique intro where it introduces the actors while also including shots of the setting and jobs people would normally do in an office job. We will try and find a non-copyright version of this song or use the song completely.

TITLE:

Although The Office does not have a official trailer for its sitcom, it does have a intro to an episode. The starting title screen shows an illuminated industry sign that says "The Office". This title screen is a piece of iconography from the show. To replicate this, we can create our own title screen exactly like this but with a little bit of editing.

SOUND:

The office does not include any background music or dramatic ambiance in the background of each episode, in fact it is rather broad and familiar to what a real office ambiance would be. This makes it easy for us during post production as all we need to do is combine all of our footage together.

NARRATION:

There is very little to no narration in The Office. The only exception is when the employees are being interviewed. This is especially the case when either "Jim" or "Dwight" (actors from the sitcom) are being interviewed as they play a main role in the show. We are able to replicate this by creating a situation that leads towards a interview talking about the situation.
